Agile Networks Scoops Tech Excellence Award

Agile Networks honoured at Annual Tech Excellence Awards for Digital Transformation Project

Dublin, Thursday, 26th May 2022:  Independent network integrator and cloud services provider, Agile Networks today announced it has won the Digital Transformation Project of the Year award at the annual Tech Excellence awards.

The award recognises the company’s rollout with its partner Juniper Networks, of a €1.2 million contract with Fibrus Networks Ltd, a leading telecoms provider, to support the rollout of hyperfast full fibre broadband services to thousands of homes and businesses in Northern Ireland.

The ceremony took place in front of 450 guests at the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin on Wednesday, 25th June and the awards are widely recognised as the ‘Oscars’ of the technology industry.

Agile Networks has built a next generation core telecoms network for Fibrus capable of delivering speeds up to 100 Gigabit and an access network providing ‘last mile’ termination services to 165 locations throughout the province.

This will provide homes and businesses in rural and regional areas of Northern Ireland with full fibre broadband at speeds of up to 1 Gigabit and will directly promote rapid acceleration of the digital economy.

Commenting on the deal, Shane Haslem, chief operating officer with Fibrus said:

“We needed to hit the ground running with a very technical and experienced team that could deliver to a high level.  That’s what Agile Networks helped us to do. I find the team very professional in their approach to network design, configuration and installation and their flexibility supports a timely rollout of the project.”

The core telecoms network is based on Juniper Networks’ technology, future-proofed to seamlessly cope with exponential traffic growth.  With consumers and businesses demanding higher speeds, cloud adoption and ever-increasing video consumption, Juniper’s platform allows Fibrus to quickly react to changing market conditions through innovative network architecture.

“Integration of the core and access networks was certainly a challenge as we were working with multiple vendors,” explains Michael Kinsella, sector director for service provider with Agile Networks.

“Our ‘last mile’ termination services are based on Nokia devices and with some clever engineering from our technical team, we were able to ensure complete interoperability with the Juniper Networks backbone.  Our roadside crews are proceeding apace with network termination and we expect to complete a large proportion of the Northern Ireland sites in 2022,” he said.

Up to the end of March 2022, more than 80,000 premises have already been passed.
